School Counseling Intern

Reports to

School Counselor

Job Purpose:

The school counseling intern is expected to perform individual and group counseling, crisis intervention analyzes, and work on school assessments and psychological assessments, intakes and carry out appropriate referral strategies. The intern is expected to perform other related tasks that are part of the school policies. Work is supervised by the School Counselor.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an all-encompassing educational and counseling plan.
  • Pay attention to cultural or societal differences in dealing with the students.
  • Conduct group or individual counseling sessions to assist students with problems or concerns.
  • Ability to present during parents’ awareness sessions.
  • Handling reporting measures on all events and compiling data adequately to all monthly activities and sessions.
  • Develop family therapy sessions for the families of students with major behavioral conditions upon need.
  • Work on daily reporting of student referrals.
  • Evaluate the progress of students' cases and reinforce the sense of accomplishment.
  • Monitor carefully the implementation of the Child Protection Policy. 
  • Identify behavioral problems or at-risk students and act appropriately.
  • Cooperate with parents and teachers as well as team members and the administration team.
  • Complete assessments and tests, analyze results and provide feedback.
Qualifications Include
  • Adequate counseling skills, particularly with behavior and cognitive skills.
  • Integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to operate within a wide range of student personalities and backgrounds.
  • Education in various models of counseling practices and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and good knowledge with social-emotional intelligence abilities.
  • Reporting and documenting skills.
  • Good searching/browsing skills. and models.

Skills

  • Good command of English and Arabic language skills.

  • Excellent usage of Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Able to manage data adequately.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Good knowledge of special cases is essential.

  • Good knowledge of counseling practices is relative.

 

Working Conditions
  • Working at the Community School in (Talbya).
  • The internship duration period will be: 3 months, 40 hours per week, 500 hour internship.
